In Defence of Muslim Doctors
In light of the recent attempted car bombings
in London and the attack on Glasgow Airport, the Muslim Health Network
categorically denounces these vile and reprehensible actions intended
to cause death, destruction and harm to blameless, innocent civilians
going about their daily lives. Islam was not revealed to humanity
to cause chaos and mischief, its divine origin espouses the protection
and sanctity of life, family, society, belief and wealth, as Allah
(swt) says in the Holy Qur’an:
"…
help one another in acts of righteousness and piety, and do not help
one another in sin and transgression. Fear Allah: Surely Allah is
severe in retribution” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:2)
"Believers! Be upright bearers of witness for
Allah, and do not let the enmity of any people move you to deviate
from justice. Act justly,
that is nearer to God-fearing. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is well
aware of what you do” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:8)
Reports suggest that the perpetrators of this conspiracy are Muslim
health professionals and doctors. The Network is shocked, dismayed
yet resolute in its defence of the thousands of Muslim doctors who
are a credit to their vocation here in the UK, recognised for their
diligent and equitable professionalism. The mandatory precepts of
health care and medicine oblige all health practitioners to empathetically
serve, support and preserve the lives of all patients and people who
face discomfort through ailment.
These disturbed and corrupted individuals should not be allowed to
malign the good name of Muslim doctors and physicians, who were also
the object of unjust, disproportionate and uncorroborated criticism,
relating to patient confidentiality, by the Secretary of State some
months ago. It is hoped that the community will support, appreciate
and consider them and the true representatives of Islamic medicine,
such as Ibn Sina, Ibn Al-Nafis, Al-Razi and Ibn Rushd, the 12th century
scholars who contributed and inspired the 17th century medicinal renaissance
and scientific advancements. Please view:
