HYPOTHERMIA & FROSTBITE
Hypohermia A life threatening condition
which leaves the casualty shivering, cold to the touch, loss of co-ordination
or possibly consciousness and a slow breathing/heart rhythm. Take
the person to a warm place, make sure their clothing and skin are
dry. Rap them up and warm their body up slowly.
Frostbite
Frostbite is the freezing over
of any part of the body. The skin is usually pale, solid, cold, grey
patches may develop
with blisters. The affected
area can be very fragile so treat delicately. Try and thaw quickly by wrapping
in cloth/blankets or by immersing in warm water. Do not allow the injured parts
to touch sides of sink or container. |
